Geology is taught after XII standard. Many universities provide Under Graduate level (B.Sc.) and Post Graduate level (M.Sc. and M.Tech) courses in Geology and Earth Science. Post PG courses like PG Diploma, M.Phil and PhD. Courses are also offered by many universities. IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) also offer M.Tech in Geology. To peruse a career in geology one should opt Geology as one subject at B.Sc. level after that M.Sc. or M.Tech. is must to get jobs related to geology. About 103 universities in India provide various courses related to Geology. Many universities have more then one affiliated Institutes/Colleges offering geology.

Geoinformatics Education in India

Geoinformatics is the synergy of multiple discipline, namely GIS (Geographic Information System), Remote Sensing, Geodesy and Information Technology. It is fundamental to all disciplines which use location data or map data. Nearly 70 universities and Institutes provide M.Sc./ M.Tech, PG diploma and certificate courses in Remote Sensing, GIS and Geoinformatics. Generally science graduates are eligible for such courses but the admission criteria and minimum qualification varies. PG Diploma in RS/GIS or Geoinformatics is offered by about 25 universities. Mostly Department of Geography and Geology offer diploma courses. Besides universities and Institutions many private institutes also offer certificate and diploma courses in geoinfrmatics.
